The Fifth Estate is Bill Condon’s third film based on a true story. Gods and Monsters explored the later life of director James Whale and Kinsey chronicled Alfred Kinsey’s sexual research. When you see The Fifth Estate this weekend, you’ll see how Condon visually portrayed Julian Assange’s creation of Wikileaks, from a montage of the history of printed communication, to a virtual infinity office representing the data in Assange’s company. In a video interview at the Toronto International Film Festival, we spoke with Condon about his approach to real life subjects, the film’s visual style, and the new Sherlock Holmes project he is developing with Ian McKellan.
