Rumor: Gears of War Prequel in the Works

Witness the birth of Marcus’ manly soul patch.

There may be a Gears of War prequel title in the works. We use the word “may” because it’s still technically rumor status, but that hasn’t stopped Official Xbox Magazine from reporting on it.

The publication is also claiming that developer People Can Fly, who is owned by Epic Games and recently teamed with them to create Bulletstorm, are behind the wheel of the project. To that we give the big thumbs up!

It would have been naive of us to think the Gears of War franchise was over after Gears of War 3 wrapped up. Sure, Marcus, Dom and the rest of Delta Squad’s story is over, but there is still plenty of content to mine (like Imulsion, get it?!) for future titles. You know, like the entire backstory of the universe. With that in mind, we can believe the rumor of the next game in the franchise being a prequel to the Gears trilogy we know and love.

Unfortunately, it’s probably going to be a long time before we hear any concrete details on if this rumor is true or not. Until then, it’s wishful thinking that the answer to this riddle is “yes.”

But if you’re in dire need of new Gears of War story content and can’t wait until the next game in the franchise is officially announced, don’t miss the upcoming story-driven DLC for Gears of War 3, “RAAM’s Shadow,” which releases on December 13th.
