Thus far, the hump day has been a major downer (or uplifter depending how you feel about the PSPgo). However, this news is just plain disappointing, there’s no other way to slice it. Sony and Team Ico have announced on the official PS Blog that the Ico/Shadow of the Colossus Collection and The Last Guardian have both been delayed. The titles were supposed to release in Spring 2011 and Winter 2011, respectively. Now it’s looking like the HD-remastering collection of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus may still hit 2011, while The Last Guardian will slip into 2012.
If you need a second to compose yourself, we can hold on…
… OK, now that we've dried away those tears let's hear the official word from The Last Guardian Director/Game Designer, Fumito Ueda:
“I announced at last year’s Tokyo Game Show that the release timing of The Last Guardian which is currently being developed would be holiday 2011.
However, to provide more challenging and better quality of content to users and to fulfill First Party Studio’s obligations, I decided to postpone its release timing.
All the members of my production team are working together at a fast pace to develop and release the game in First Party Studio quality.
I sincerely apologize to all the customers who have been waiting for The Last Guardian for so long, but I beg for your patience. I will also announce the new release timing at a later time.”
This is disappointing news no doubt. However, we can hold out hope that when these titles do eventually release they will be so good that we’ll forget all about the delays. With Team Ico behind the steering wheel, there’s a very good chance of that happening.
