Sadly, rapper Heavy D has passed away in Los Angeles today (Tuesday) at the age of 44. The rapper, legal name Dwight Arrington Myers, was taken to a Los Angeles hospital in the early afternoon, and was pronounced dead less than an hour later.

TMZ reports that a 911 call was made from Heavy's Beverly Hills home to report that there was an unconscious man on the walkway. However, he was reportedly conscious and talking when the emergency services arrived. Police will be investigating his death, but presently do not believe there is any obvious signs of foul play.

After first making a name for himself as the lead in the group Heavy D & The Boyz and earning his stripes as a record producer, the heavyset rapper found a steady measure of success in the mid-nineties, and made himself a household name with hits including "Now That We Found Love". Additionally, he performed the theme song for the popular sketch show "In Living Color".

Heavy returned to the stage last month after a 15 year absence from live performances. Most recently, he performed at the Michael Jackson Tribute Concert in Wales four weeks ago, where he sang "Jam" with La Toya Jackson.
