It’s the curse of the rap genre that we have lost so many of our greats long before their prime years, yet they became immortalized with the songs they made during their young lives. Eazy E is one of such legends, a West Coast icon that died in 1995 at the age of 30. The member of probably the greatest rap group of all time NWA, but Eazy E biography also has a couple of long paragraphs written for his equally productive solo career. So there is a big pool of songs to choose the best songs the gangsta rapper made, and we narrowed it down to seven of the very best ones he made outside Niggas With Attitude.
Best Eazy E Songs
Arguably the Eazy song that he is most known for as it is associated with the often-used phrase and was released on the rapper’s first solo album Eazy-Duz-It back in 1988 as the first single. Eazy co-wrote the song with Ice Cube, and its greatness is all due to the lyrics. The beat is very simplistic, the Eazy isn’t on top of his flow as usual, but the song is still incredibly catchy and valuable.
It’s the undeniable charisma, edgy humor that separated Eazy from the rest of the scene and also from his fellow NWA group members. The simple way Eazy Duz It starts illustrates that perfectly. In this first album single it all comes together, the production done by the NWA members is amazing, Eazy is on point with his specific delivery, and the lines are entertaining as they come.
Despite being an important member of the gangster rap genre, Eazy is firstly memorized as a rapper that focuses his tracks on humor, yet he had his, very successful, field trips into crime, and horror rap. The ominous beat made Eazy E change his delivery and it was a major hit as it resulted in one of the scariest rap tracks ever even though it was recorded by the likable Eric Wright, which is Eazy’s real name.
Merry Muthafuckin’ Xmas featuring Dolomite, Atban Klann & Menajahtwa
Back doing what he does best – making people bounce and laugh at the same time, Eazy really showed his true artistry and talent with this one as he takes a famous Christmass tune and makes it totally his and completely G. Released in 1992, yet the jokes and lines don’t ever get old and always cause a chuckle. Eazy rarely did collaborations but when he did the not so known rappers were all word class, and that’s the case with the arguably the best Christmas song ever.
Real Muthaphukkin’ G’s featuring B.G. Knocc Out and Dresta
Besides making the best funny songs Eazy also made one of the very best diss tracks ever, arguably second only to 2Pac’s Hit Em Up. Released on Eazy’s second EP It’s On (Dr. Dre) 187um Killa, it was pointed out at the former friend and bandmate Dr. Dre, and his protégé Snoop Doggy Dogg. Real Muthaphukkin’ G’s became Eazy E’s highest charting single as a solo artist, and probably his most famous song as it is one of the gangster rap anthems.
Another diss track aiming at Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg, it’s almost an acapella at moments conveying how much of pure skill Eazy had after all. The signature sliding, squealing West Coast beat comes in strong at times emphasizing Eazy’s hits on the former bandmate. Changing of the flow is done effortlessly several times in the song, and the production is the perfect example of old school.
Switchez featuring Roc Slanga
One of the great songs made after Eazy E died of AIDS, Switchez was released in 2002 as a part of the Impact of a Legend EP. It was a perfect nostalgy injection at that time as it featured signature West Coast style with the bouncing flow Eazy is renowned for. While Eazy E didn’t make one of the all-time great rap albums on his own, (he did it with NWA), he truly was the king of the extended plays, even after his death.
Do you agree with our choices of the best Eazy E songs or would you include some other tracks? It’s a hard task.
