Born Marina Ann Hantzis, Sasha Grey is a former award-winning porn star and Penthouse Pet of the Month Miss July 2007. She has since segued into becoming a mainstream actress, musician, DJ, and writer.
Sasha Grey is a mix of English, Greek, Irish and Polish ancestry. She is also bisexual. She described herself as a “reformed Catholic – as in I’m no longer a Catholic, but was raised one.”
In her porn career, she has won awards, including “Best Oral Sex Scene” and “Female Performer of the Year,” and was named by CNBC as one of the 12 most popular stars in porn in 2011. Film critic A.O. Scott of the New York Times said her career was “distinguished both by the extremity of what she was willing to do and the unusual degree of intellectual seriousness doing it.” She’s appeared in hundreds of films and if the human body can do it, she’s probably done it.
Sasha Grey moved to Los Angeles when she was 18 with the explicit goal of getting into porn. She said, “I never embodied the stereotypical image of a porn star. I was never interested in that…I was never interested in the image of trying to look good and present this buxom bombshell image.”
In 2011, however, she announced on Facebook that she was retiring from porn, saying, “I genuinely feel I accomplished everything I could as a performer.”
In a Rolling Stone interview from 2009, Sasha said she avoids listening to the radio and had never heard of Taylor Swift. She described herself on Twitter as “Funky. Hot sauce enthusiast. Single Malt Drinking, Dean Martin Wannabe.”
While she was part of the band eTelecine, as of July 2013, she is no longer a member. She has two books under her belt, a photo book and a fictional erotic novel. She thinks the novel, “The Juliette Society” is the first in a series. She is currently writing the second installment.
She said she is hungry in life for passion. “The minute passion dies out you have nothing. It’s like love, it’s air.” Though she still pursues acting, she admitted that it’s a struggle.
Sasha Grey resides in Southern California.
