Rebecca is a mix of Dutch, Scottish, African American and Sioux ancestry.
Rebecca Hall went to Roedean School and studied English Literature at St. Catharine's College, Cambridge before she dropped out in her final year. While at Cambridge, Rebecca appeared in a variety of plays. She was also part of the Marlowe Society.
Her first role came in 1992 (when she was only 10 in her father's production) in the television adaptation of "The Camomile Lawn." Rebecca Hall's father then offered her the role of Vivie in his stage production of "Mrs Warren's Profession." Rebecca Hall recalled, "I thought he was off his nut. How I could I walk straight in a lead role in the West End, with everybody saying, 'Here comes the director's daughter'?" (askmen.com).
Her film debut was in "Starter for Ten." But her big film break came with the role of Sarah Borden in Christopher Nolan's film "The Prestige."
Other roles followed, including parts in "Joe's Palace," "Vicky Cristina Barcelona," for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture " Musical or Comedy. She said her audition with Woody Allen went like this: "I came in and met Woody and he said, 'Can you do an American accent?' and I said 'Yes,' and he said, "OK, bye.' That was pretty much it."
Rebecca Hall said of the difference between film and stage, "In theatre, you have a context for the story that you establish and create an entire world on stage from beginning to end, whereas in film, you're really at those places " at that school, on that campus with extras.It's an imaginative adjustment that you make, and I loved it" (askmen.com).
Rebecca Hall appeared in "Frost/Nixon," "Dorian Gray," "Please Give" and "The Town."
Stage appearances include "Mrs Warren's Profession," "As You Like It," "Man and Superman," "The Winter's Tale" and "The Cherry Orchard."
Rebecca Hall said of fame, "Coming from parents who are in the public eye, I learned early on not to take it all too seriously. I am not going to get completely self-obsessed and wrapped up in it all."
Rebecca Hall is currently dating Kate Winslett's ex-husband, Sam Mendes. Rebecca Hall is not active on social media.
