She has two younger twin brothers. Marion began acting during her childhood and appeared on stage in plays written by her father. She recalled, "My dream was wide, I didn't see any boundaries, and maybe that's why I crossed the ocean" (telegraph.co.uk).
Marion Cotillard appeared in minor roles, including "Highlander," and French films. But it was her role in "Love Me If You Dare" that got her more attention. Other roles followed, including "Big Fish," "A Very Long Engagement," "Innocence," "A Good Year," and "La Vie en Rose." She said, "It's not the fame that changed my life, but 'La Vie en Rose,' which was a turning point for me. It put me in a different universe and gave me the opportunity to really discover different worlds."
Her star continued to rise with roles in "Public Enemies," "Nine," "Inception," "Midnight in Paris," "Contagion," and "The Dark Knight Rises." She has said, "I don't think you learn how to act. You learn how to use your emotions and feelings." She said, in regards to "Inception": "It's really an interesting idea to enter someone else's dreams. I would love to go into an animal's dream " like a lions or a cat's."
Marion Cotillard has also appeared in music videos for Canadian singer Hawksley Workman. And until recently, she sometimes played bass and keyboard with the French band Yodelice. They even recorded several songs. She said, "I love being one of the musicians in the back. The light is on the singer and I'm in the band. I love that."

In 2008, Marion Cotillard doubted the official explanation for the 2001 terrorist attacks in the United States and implied the World Trade Center towers was an intentional demolition. Her assertion created controversy.
Though not married, her partner is French actor Guillaume Canet. She gave birth to their child, a boy named Marcel, in May 2011.
Marion Cotillard has said about death, "I don't know if we have many lives or if I will be reincarnated in a next life, but I really do think that when you die, it doesn't stop" (interviewmagazine.com). She added, "I think the Earth and everything around it is connected " the sky and the planets and the stars and everything else we see as a mystery."
