Jessica Marais is a South African actress who moved to Australia when she was 9. She is most famous for her roles on such TV series as "Packed to the Rafters," "Magic City," and "Love Child."
As mentioned above, Jessica Dominique Marais was born on January 29, 1985 in Johannesburg, South Africa, but her family eventually emigrated to Perth, Australia when she was just 9 years old. Prior to this, she was a resident of Canada and New Zealand for various amounts of time, as well. With all this moving around, she obviously wasn't able to focus much on acting as a child, but that all changed after her move to Australia. Sadly, the reason the moving ceased was for a very tragic reason. Six months after the emigration, her father Tony collapsed and died at a family picnic, leaving Jessica and her younger sister Clara to be raised by their mother Karen.
After her father's passing, Jessica attended John XXIII College for one year before switching schools. She studied at St Hilda's Anglican School for Girls from 1995 until her graduation in 2002. From there, her passion for acting finally began to blossom as she moved on to the National Institute of Dramatic Art, graduating in 2007. During her time at NIDA, she performed in stage productions of Hamlet and as lead character Charity in Sweet Charity.
Even before graduating NIDA, Jessica landed her first major television role as Rachel rafter in "Packed to the Rafters." From there, work began to flow in steadily, with another recurring role on the series "Legend of the Seeker" the following year, as well as roles in the films "Two Fists, One Heart" and "Needle" in 2008 and 2010, respectively. After leaving "Packed to the Rafters" in 2013, Jessica made the transition to Los Angeles, where she went on to star on series such as "Magic City" and "Love Child."
