Dakota Mayi Johnson is an American actress probably best known for being the daughter of Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson. She is set to play Anastasia in the film adaption of “Fifty Shades of Grey.”
Dakota Johnson grew up in both Los Angeles and Aspen, Colorado. “Aspen is such a special thing to have had in my life. Living in LA can be so tricky. You have to be careful.” She danced at the Aspen Community School for 12 years.
She got into modeling when she was 12. “I did a Teen Vogue shoot with celebrity kids. It was fun for me. I didn’t do anything more for a few years after that…when I turned 18, it all started coming together.”
When she was 10, she made her film debut in “Crazy in Alabama,” which was directed by her stepfather, Antonio Banderas.
In 2006, Dakota Johnson was voted Miss Golden Globe. That same year, she signed with IMG Models, and by 2009, she was modeling for MANGO brand’s jeans line.
However, in 2007, she completed a 30-day rehab at Visions Teen Treatment Center for drug and alcohol addiction.
Dakota Johnson chose to become an actress because “I felt so much when I was fifteen, sixteen, seventeen, I felt everything. I didn’t understand, I was so happy yet so angry and sad. That was the point when I realized that I needed to tell stories and make characters come alive and I needed to make people cry, and make people angry, and make people happy, and make them laugh.”
When she graduated from high school, she signed with William Morris and appeared in “The Social Network,” as well as “Beastly,” “Ben and Kate” and “21 Jump Street.”
“When I did the ‘Social Network,’ David Fincher told me that I managed to make a thankless character pretty awesome. I thought that was really cool because I think he’s really cool.”
She took down her Facebook profile because she didn’t like being on it, and she is notably absent on social media.
Her grandmother is Tippi Hedren, famous from Hitchcock’s “The Birds.”
Dakota Johnson resides in Los Angeles, California.
