Growing up in a multi-racial family, she said, “From very early on, I was surrounded by different cultures, so, as a kid I wasn’t really aware of it…now I understand that the world sees me as a black woman, a person of color and I’m okay with that…but I also try to be fair to both sides of who I am, since they played a big part in making me who I am today.”
In her teens, Brooklyn Sudano moved to Nashville, Tennessee, where she sang in a gospel choir and appeared in her high school theater productions. She eventually graduated valedictorian of her class. “I was always kind of a student, a nerd. I didn’t have a lot of dates in high school. I really didn’t.” She was accepted at a variety of Ivy League schools, but she decided to attend nearby Vanderbilt University.
She later studied at the Lee Strasberg Theater Institute and signed as a Ford model.
As for her name, she said her parents had decided to name their child “Brooklyn” whether it was a boy or girl. As for growing up with Donna Summer as her mother, she said, “To me, my parents are mom and dad…it was normal and what I’ve always known. I don’t know anything different so I don’t really have anything to compare it to,” (nathanielturner.com).
She has been married to Mike McGlaflin since October 2006. Brooklyn Sudano currently resides in Los Angeles, California.
